Location : Taylor, TX (Remote) The Power System Engineer is responsible for performing electrical engineering analysis and system studies to support the reliable interconnection of new generation resources to the grid. This role involves conducting power flow studies, evaluating interconnection applications, ensuring compliance with NERC standards and protocols, and supporting transmission planning activities. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with power system modeling tools, and the ability to communicate technical findings effectively.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical engineering analysis to support generator interconnection studies and system planning
  • Conduct power flow and load flow studies to evaluate feasibility of new generation interconnections
  • Analyze simulated and actual system operating results to ensure compliance with applicable standards
  • Review interconnection applications for compliance with Planning Guides, Protocols, and technical requirements
  • Develop system models, tools, and procedures for power system studies and analysis
  • Identify system issues and propose technical solutions for current and future grid reliability
  • Track interconnection project milestones from study request through commercial operation
  • Communicate technical requirements, study results, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support process improvements related to interconnection workflows, data management, and reporting
  • Prepare technical reports documenting analysis, findings, and recommendations
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure reliable grid integration of new resources

Skills:

  • Strong experience in electrical power system analysis and grid studies
  • Hands-on experience with PSS/E for load flow and power system studies
  • Understanding of NERC standards, protocols, and planning guidelines
  • Experience with transmission system analysis and interconnection studies
  • Ability to interpret and analyze complex electrical system data
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
  • Experience with Python, VBA, SQL, or similar programming/query tools preferred
  • Familiarity with tools such as TARA and other power system applications
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional engineering teams

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required
  • Less than 1 year to 2+ years of experience in electric utility or power systems industry
  • Experience in power system modeling, analysis, or utility interconnection studies preferred
  • Familiarity with transmission planning and grid reliability standards
  • Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles
